One universal in militaries around the world is the inter force rivalry, sometimes it gets pretty hard core.
But they are usually great slams on one another. ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

Now keep in mind that the Navy is the Senior Service. It may also help you Marines to remember that the Corps is part of the Department of the Navy ![Twisted Evil ](./images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif)

Because the Navy is always rotten to the corps ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

The US Air Force Chief-of-Staff would never be called -- Airman
The Chief-of-Naval Operations would never be called -- Sailor
The Commanding General of The US Army would never be called -- Soldier
BUT the Commandant of the Marine Corps is proud to be called -- Marine

And he calls SceNav Sir. Actually there have been several CNO's know as Sailors. There are many Admirals who felt that was the greatest of compliments.
I would like to think each of these senior officers thought of themselves as such.
