What's curious is who'll be appointed as the interim. Healthcare votes are on the horizon. The good guys might be a man up.

Apparently Mr Kennedy spearheaded a bill to remove the appointment powers from the MA governor in 2004. They have to have an election.
In 2006 he tried to add the power to appoint a temporary person until the election could happen. That failed.
I don't really care either way about the guy, but just looking at him... Gluttonous is a word that fits. Wait, I do care about the fact that he has been a lifelong politician. Politicians should not be allowed lifetime appointments...

My mother taught me that if you cannot say something good about the deceased you should not say anything at all.
Edward Kennedy is dead.
Good.

PS: Massachusetts passed the law requiring an election to fill a vacant Senatorial seat to prevent Republican governor Romney from naming a Republican to fill Sen. Kerry's expected vacancy. Now the self-serving Democrats want to change it back because that law does not help them in this situation.
The Democrats in Massachusetts have no moral compass and they lack any shame whatsoever.

As expected, it appears that the dems are going all "Wellstone" about this and will be using the dead to try and ram health care. I wonder how long he ( Kennedy) would have lived under a government run system? Wait, maybe I need to rethink this.

While I wouldn't rejoice at anyones death, it reminded me of the 1972 National Lampoon satire of the Volkswagen ad: Quote: It floats.
The way our body is built, we'd be surprised if it didn't. The sheet of flat steel that goes underneath every Volkswagen keeps out water, as well as dirt and salt and other nasty things that can eat away at the underside of a car. So it's watertight at the bottom. And everybody knows it's easier to shut the door on a Volkswagen after you've rolled down the window a little.
That proves it's practically airtight on top. If it was a boat, we could call it the Water Bug. But it's not a boat, it's a car.
And, like Mary Jo Kopechne, it's only 99 and 44/100 percent pure. So it won't stay afloat forever. Just long enough. Poor Teddy. If he'd been smart enough to buy a Volkswagen, he never would have gotten into hot water. After Volkswagen sued the Lampoon, they came up with the following retraction: "Even if Ted Kennedy had driven a Volkswagen he wouldn't be president today".

Most amusing.
Why doesn't some politician say simply that Ted was a drunken liberal blowhard? Wait, they're politicians.....
