I've read a ton over the years. Now I mostly read non-fiction or technical books that are business related. My political interests have me reading more and more in the blogsphere.

I probably spend an inordinate amount of time reading TCC.com. 8) :D

Anything by Caleb Carr, particularly The Alienist, and The Angel of Darkness (both historical fiction). Otherwise, yeah, Heinlein, etc.

Went to Jamaica a couple weeks ago and while there I read the book, "Waiting for White Horses" by Nathan Jorgenson. He gave me a couple books as a gift, the other is "The Mulligan" which I haven even started yet. But if you had any type of outdoor relationship with your father, I highly recommend "Waiting for White Horses", a lot of it hits very close to home.

East Coast crime fiction: Lawrence Block's Matt Scudder series, or anything by Nelson deMille.

West Coast crime fiction: Michael Connelly rules! Of course, there's Waumbaugh's classic badged thugs.

MN Crime: Lovin' (William) Kent Krueger's Cork O'Conner and John Sandford grew on me. I like that "fuckin' Flowers", and the Kidd books as much as Lucas Davenport (who knew we had so many serial killers here?)

Currently reading, am about to read, or just finished:
Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell - tough SOB, I feel very sorry for him.
Joker One (marine platoon story from Iraq)
Personal Memoirs of US Grant & Selected Letters 1839-1865

It's a great story once you wade through his simplistic political diatribes in the first few chapters. I almost didn't finish it because it bothered me so badly. Someone else had to encourage me to wade through it.

It was actually the news story of some shitheads killing his dog that got me interested in the backstory..

...and there is no doubt where he falls in the political spectrum. I agree that it's irrelevant to his story.
