Post subject:  Gunflint Are you safe

The fire is spreading and I haven't seen a post recently from Gunflint.

Does anyone know if he was evacuated, if so is his place safe?

I must have, I replied to it. I blame it on the drugs they gave me last night after the procedure, my brain is at about 50% power right now.

Thanks for the link.

Hey you made it!

Funny thing about that is my Uncle had a massive heart attack two days ago and had a quadrupal bypass yesterday. Ok so not so funny, but everyone is still alive!

Damn, that makes my stent look insignificant.

I hope everything went as well for him as it did for me. My thoughts are with him.

Well, it's been a busy couple of days. First of all family, guests, and staff are safe. We are under a precautionary evacuation until further notice but myself, my wife, and adult son are back at the lodge. Staff is staying in town for another day or two and commuting up the trail for the day.

Yesterday was a "Perfect Storm" for a catastrophic wildfire. Winds of 30 to 40 miles an hour constantly changing directions and the forest so dry that you could feel it. It was a day. We were evacuated at about 9:30 pm and after alerting guests and staff and making sure they were on their way we headed to town with a very lite supply of priority belongings. (Of course the guns made the cut) We finally checked into Silver Bay around 2:30am. We headed back up the trail around 11am today.

I will probably have some more to say in a few days but we are all drained, both physically and emotionally. I would like to emphasize to everyone not to believe all that they see and read about this fire. The devastation is real and it's not over. But it's (the devastation) not total. Most of the business have survived with little or no damage and will be open for business as soon as the evacuation is over. We've been through this before. The media's job is as much to make news as to report news. It's to their advantage to exaggerate the facts. More later and thanks guys for your concern. :D

For what it's worth, we're actually seeing your smoke down here in Rochester... Seeing smoke 350 miles away qualifies as a BIG fire to me. Stay safe.
