Winchester WB is a good choice - reliability - vs cost - I would try some expansion testing - see if they are no too heavily constructed.
I got some interesting results in some testing that I just did - 9mm Winchester 127 +P+ holy crap - way too tough a bullet - but the bugger does expand like mad.
I absolutely destroyed 20 lbs of plastolina with that bullet.
That IS the bulle tto carry in a 9mm
In a 40 - I have tested the Winchestr 155gr STHP - good expansion - good penetration - nothing like a 9mm however.... (not the windhester anyhow)
Remington 9BP is a good choice - it closely matches the profile of 124 gr FMJ.

I carry Federal's HST's. They're $12.50 a box of 50 from Streichers. All of Streichers ammo seems to be cheaper, so I stick with them.
And agree'd that shot placement is the most important thing. I do agree with Joel, however. When it comes to a shooting situation, the only thing we can really control is what gun we're shooting, and what kind of bullet is coming out of the gun. Other than that, it's an out of control situation. I want to exercise as much control over the life and death situation as I possibly can.
