The Washington county sherriff got my renewal out in 10 days. Also reduced the fees to $75.00 new and $50.00 renew.
Previous sherriff had marked all permits "sub rocuso". When the new sherriff took over, he sent letters to all permit holders offering a replacement without the offensive verbage and you could order that replacement via fax with just your signature.
All seems well for permit seekers in Washington County.
Regards
Bob

Sub recuso means "under protest". He didn't much like having to obey the law.

Sub recuso? I guess it could be said that the new sheriff is pro roscoe?
Quote: Roscoe n. Gun, most often a pistol. Term derives from a brand of gun in the 1930s (typically a .22). Used often in film noir movies and detective stories. Alternate spelling: rosco.
"Had me scared, had me scared, I was shook Daddy - but I forget I had my Roscoe on me." -Notorious B.I.G.
"Hey man, you better cock that Roscoe, here comes trouble."

I don't remember how long my renewal took but it was less then a couple of weeks and cost $55.00. The price drop was a welcomed surprise.

And then there's the followup.
Sheriff Franks wanted to run for reelection; at the Republican County convention, one man rose to move that they nominate him "sub recuso."
He announced his retirement the next day.
(No, it wasn't me. It was Bethke.)

Joel,
I didn't know that! That's Classic!
What a fitting end for Franks. I have to keep my old permit card for a keepsake.

Just goes to show you. One guy in the right place at the right time making the right comment can have an effect. Kind of a tipping point kind of thing.

Ohhh, to have seen the Frank's face when that happened

FWIW: My son submitted his Washington County application ($75) on Tuesday of this week and received his permit in Saturday's mail. That's almost as fast as a 911 response, for crying out loud. Kudos to Washington County!

Just got my renewed permit today.
$55.00 and in my pocket in 11 days!
Applied late Friday afternoon on July 18th, here early morning the 29th.
And no, it does not have "sub recuso" under Sheriff Hutton's signature.
Sheriff Hutton sent me a letter some time ago willing to replace my "sub recuso" permit. I didn't bother to respond. I kinda liked my permit from (Ex) Sheriff Frank. I got a chuckle everytime I would look at it.
Heh, heh, heh.
I suppose I'll just file it away now, to keep it as a small memory of our victory years earlier.

Two weeks to the day after I applied it showed up. Heck, the ladies at the window who took my application were so friendly about the whole affair - I thought I was completing the paperwork process with my mom's help.
