High-ranking St. Croix Co. official arrested for OWI

A high-ranking deputy was arrested for drunk driving over the weekend. Officials say he was caught drinking and driving in an unmarked squad car on the way to a week of police training in Appleton, Wis.

St. Croix County Sheriff Cpt. Mike Winberg is the third highest-ranking member of the department. Police in the town of Grand Chute, Wis. told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS Winberg was seen driving at an usually slow speed around 10:30 p.m. Sunday night.

Winberg was taken into custody on suspicion of operating while intoxicated and held in the Outgamie County Jail overnight.

The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Department confirmed Winberg was placed on leave from the department.

Earlier this month, a 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS investigation revealed that a St. Croix County deputy was disciplined for delaying an ambulance from departing the scene of an accident.

Isn't Appleton, Wisc where they hold all of the outdoor concerts and have the river-tube rides? If so, what a friggin' idiot.

Yup. Note that she got a slap on the wrist and a promotion.

A guy would think that such outrageous behavior was condoned by her department . . .
