The officer statements obtained by FOX 9, say several police officers kicked him and punched him because he was resisting. A Taser was also used to subdue Jenkins.

After reviewing the video, Dolan asked for an outside review by the FBI. Dolan said the actions of Officer Richard Walker, the initial officer involved, "all appear to be very appropriate." It was the actions of the other responding officers, "specifically the kicking of the suspect," that concerned Dolan.

Charges against Derryl Jenkins in the traffic stop were eventually dropped, but he's now considering a lawsuit against the Minneapolis Police Department.

I think the Minneapolis police will have to do some fast talking. Hard to justify when the guy is laying motionless on the ground and about 4-6 officers all jump on him and stomped and punched repeatably in not one but two separate incidents. Looked more like a gang fight than anyone trying to control the situation. I wonder if there will be metals for the officers for there bravery. http://www.startribune.com/local/53308937.html Did anyone find it unusual that the cop tries to open the door before anything else, like knocking on the window and asking for license and registration?

Thoughts after watching that: I'm not taking issue with the first officer putting him on the ground. It takes some serious idiocy to get out of your car when you haven't been told to do so, and he wasn't exactly being calm. I do wonder why in the world the first officer didn't tase him...? I counted at least four solid spots where the officer had a hand free and there was a lull in the fight. Isn't this kind of mess exactly what tasers are supposed to stop? Regardless, the kicking is WAY out of line. Not allowable by any department I know of to stop someone from just going tense to resist restraint. -Mark

Compare the Strib video to the Fox 9 news video Fox 9 edited out all but one kick and much of the punching. Last night on the news they didn't show any kicking and maybe one punch.

Here's a better idea: To me this looks like the outcome when a mass of guys are abusing steroids. There's a whole lotta 'roid rage going on here. It's time to start drug testing the cops.

Bringing in the FBI is the right move, though...then again, if MPD had a functional internal affairs dept that gave a shit...
