This is preliminarily identified as an isolated incident. It certainly is a "buried lede".

Quote: Man Shot By Police In St. Paul ST. PAUL (WCCO) ― Police shot a man in St. Paul Thursday afternoon, according to St. Paul Police spokesman Tom Walsh.
Walsh said the shooting happened as officers were responding to a burglary in progress on Forest Street North between Sims and York Avenues East.
The shooting happened at about 1 p.m.
The man who was shot was not involved in the burglary, Walsh said. He was taken to the hospital.
Walsh said two officers were involved in the shooting.
Whoopsie.

Quote: Man with 'menacing-looking' sword shot by St. Paul police
Last update: March 6, 2008 - 3:22 PM
St. Paul police shot and critically wounded a man this afternoon who lunged at officers with a sword, a department spokesman said.
The man came out of a house across the street from where the officers were responding to a burglary call in the 900 block of Forest Street on the East Side, said police spokesman Tom Walsh.
He struck the officers' squad car with a "menacing-looking" sword and then lunged at them before being shot, Walsh said.
It was not immediately known how many times the man was hit or whether one or both officers fired.
He was taken to Regions Hospital and was in critical condition, Walsh said. His identity has yet to be released.
Walsh said the "officers have been at [the man's home] many times in the past" for disturbance calls.
If there was any verbal exchange between the man and the officers, it "had to be brief," Walsh said. "[The officers] didn't have much time to react."

Can we have a "Stoopid Sword Stuff" section? Bad spelling included?

Either that, or going through Ren Fest withdrawal.
