Minn. Police Chiefs Ass. wants to BAN tasers for civilians ... AGAIN.
Tasers get smaller and better designed; more useful too.
http://wcco.com/topstories/local_story_024195433.html
Electronics are the future of self-defense weapons (and ultimately, firearms). This is the FIRST issue I worked on at the Capitol in 1985. Some legislators were in a panic and the NRA guy couldn't get here. They passed a bill after all the deadlines had expired. The result: treat 'em like mace. Minn. Stat. sec. 624.731. No "dead policemen everywhere."
Up again in 1994 when the Air Taser came out [same manufacturer as 2007 product]. Same "sky is falling" rhetoric from Chiefs. No action taken. Even Sen. Spear voted against action. No "dead policemen everywhere."
Slightly better design (but same old technology) brings new panic. Needs same action as in '94 - do nothing! It's good policy to make non-lethal self defense tools available to civilians (who compromise 99.99% of crime victims). In over 20 years, no significant (any?) use against policemen.
It costs $300 per unit; $400 after March 1.

Quote: "Let's just say I have to use it against a perpetrator in my house. It would deploy it ... I'd place it on the ground to work," he said. "It provides me a 30 second window of opportunity to escape a dangerous situation." Sure... I'll bet... Quote: Tuttle said there have been six known crimes involving Tasers out of 130,000 purchases since 1994.
Tasers should be a top priority for law makers and cops.

If you do move there, and are walking down the sidewalk and see a deadly .22lr round laying about, be sure to point at it and yell "Shennanigans" really loudly.

You'd think the anti's would love this in their 'babysteps' approach. Afterall, the Taser "stops the threat" immediately and generally harmlessly so why would anyone need to own--much less carry--a gun for self defense?
Tasers are a great option that works quite well most of the time. Better still, no stray rounds and you can afford to make a mistake. I can see updating our very thin laws regarding their use, but that's about all.

Or you could do a little Caddyshack, "Here it is!... (pick it up and sniff it) It's no big deal! (and put it in your pocket and walk away)"

Assuming Minnesota still will allow citizens to defend themselves, The Carry Depot will be a distributor for International Taser and their new C2 Taser. The standard C2 MSRP is $299.99 and the `C2 with laser MSRP is $349.99. According to the TASER INTNL executives at the SHOT show in Orlando two weeks ago, these are the prices that are expected to be in effect for all of 2007. Lead time is approximately 6 weeks at this time. As with all of the items we sell at the Carry Depot, this item will be discounted as TI allows. Exact pricing will not be available for probably 30 days. We tested this item at SHOT, fired it, and saw its effect on some 250# guys. Needless to say, it was very impressive! In conversations with many of our self-defense students, this product is very desireable for those who are reluctant to use a firearm in self-defense. For those of you who may have an technical interest, here are some of the specs:
1. 15 foot range. Can also be used a contact stun device.
2. 30 second cycle (fire, put the unit down and escape)
3. must submit for a background check before the unit will be activated.
4. has an integrated LED light
5 optional laser
6. lithium magazine - 50 + firings
7. 1 year warranty
8. Lifetime replacement guarantee (If you use it and leave it behind to escape, send in a copy of the police report and TI will replace the unit free of charge).

If we want to STOP THE BAN of Tasers, we've got to start planning now.

Is there some conspiracy here?? Ban tasers, so everybody has to get a permit to carry. All in hopes that the "evil gun owners" would screw up, so they can get rid of the carry permits?? Just a paranoid thought.
