Post subject: | powder question |
I'm reloading 45 acp using Accurate No. 5 powder. I'm reloading with 230 gr FMJ bullets and 165 gr JHP (hydra-shok) bullets. My question is; Why would the Accurate reloading guide tell me to use a high powder charge for a lighter bullet? I have been using the 230 gr FMJ for quit some time now and decided to try the 165 gr JHP. I typically use 8 gr of powder for the 230, but Accurate is telling me to use 9.2 gr to 10.2 gr for a 185 gr JHP or 9.0 gr to 10.0 gr for a 155 gr SWC. Any help here would be appreciated. Thank you |

Think I understand what your asking if not sorry The heavier bullet mass creates more resistance which creates more pressure with less powder. |

Exactly as above - more powder = more pressure Lighter bullet means less pressure - you need mroe powder to achieve the operating pressure of the gun. |

Your both right - I emailed Accurate and they indeed told me the same. They suggested I use between 9.0 grains and 10.0 grains. Thanks guys! |
