Post subject:  Before the permit arrives

Someone was asking me this. I did a search but couldn't find it. I seem to remember someone saying on here that after you pay the sheriff fee that you can carry w/o the physical permit (before it arrives in the mail). Is that true?
And yes, I understand that it wouldn't be good to meet a cop w/o the permit. Just questioning the legality.

I think I answered my own question. The bottom of the permit receipt says, "This does not constitute a permit to carry a pistol."

But I still think someone here mentioned otherwise... still searching... no luck... hmm... wonder if its my poor memory?

The SO has 30 days to DENY your permit and notify you. After that period they have failed to DENY you. You are considered good to go. Just keep the recepit at proof that the 30 days has lapsed since your application.

True, however its possible that your denial letter simply got "lost in the mail". If this is the case, then you could be in for a lot of hassle for carrying without a P2C. My permit arrived on day 35 IIRC, and although I really wanted to carry on days 31-35, I decided against it. Best to wait until day 31, and then start pestering them with phone calls to find out the exact status of your permit. Depending on the county, you may want to record these calls as well...

until Day 30, the answer is: You can't carry anywhere you couldn't with the permit.

In general,
Home, business, your property, OK.
Directly to and from your fixed location business (I interpret this to mean it's YOUR place of business as the owner).

Otherwise, it must be transported in accordance with law. In a completely closed case . Not in a purse. Unloaded ( no ammunition in the gun and no loaded mag in the gun. Empty Mag is legal, loaded mag NOT in the gun but in same bag is legal.

I know a guy who did it that way. Loaded mag in his pocket, gun with slide locked back in completely zippered gun rug under front seat. Unloaded gun in the driveway before leaving, loaded it upon arrival at home in the evening and carried at home in between.
