An interesting experience happened to me Thanksgiving night. Shortly after eating dinner, my hand began to itch severely. For me, this is nothing new. I suffer from a chronic condition and one of the symptoms is itching. A few minutes later, it was obvious this was not a run of the mill outbreak and a trip to the ER was in order. It was a quick decision and out the door we went.

That I was carrying a firearm was about the last thing on my mind. Even after we arrived, I thought nothing of it until they wanted me to take off my coat for a BP check. As I had been home all day, I was not wearing any other cover garment. Due to my position verses the nurse, she noticed right away. She inquired and I informed her of my status. She said nothing, finished her task and led me to my room. Shortly there after, one of the security guys arrived carrying a lockable gun case. He informed me that due to hospital policy, they would need to secure the firearm for the duration of my stay. He wrote up a receipt, and asked for my firearm. I informed him that before I handed him my gun, I wanted to know if he knew the 4 safety rules, and would he recite them to me. He told me he, too, was a permit holder and listed the rules to my satisfaction. I turned over my firearm and he deftly unloaded it, locked it in the case, gave me my copy of the receipt and told me where to go to pick it up when I was done. I was attended to and finally discharged. I then proceeded to the designated office, collected my firearm and left for home. The security people were very professional and did not blink an eye. Oh, by the way, this facility is posted.

I hope everyone's Thanksgiving was less eventful than mine.

Hope you're o.k. Was it some kind of alergy thing?

I hope it all worked out with your hand. Sounds like the matter was handled in a professional and courteous manner, which is good.

My Thanksgiving was not so great either. I woke up with a pounding headache. At about 7 PM it subsided so I went out and bought another gun.

Good luck with the hand. Good response by security and the hospital.

I spent the morning cleaning out the drain after wife clogged the kitchen sink by putting too much, too fast with little water down the disposal. (As I had warned her about doing many times.) This is a typical call plumbers get on holidays.

Good day anyway.

That's great that they didn't care you were carrying. It seems like they are expecting people to carry past the sign; since they have that procedure in place.

what hospital was it?

Sometimes you are being carried, unconscious, past the signs. It's appropriate that they know what to do with the sidearm.

Which hospital? It might be nice for us to give their security department an "attaboy".

What "4 safety rules" were you looking for exactly? I was unaware there were only four. I can about guess what they are, but just curious.

Except for the headache, sounds like my day :)

Hung around the house, then went up to Bill's North and got an itch that I needed to scratch. Now I need to get it in the house to start the 72 hour rule... ;)

It's never simple, though. I'll have to buy some magazines and lay in a supply of ammo as well as some spare parts, etc.

I am okay. I had an allergic reaction to something I ate. I turned red with a rash and my hands and feet and tounge swelled a bit. After about 1:45 at the hospital, I was back to normal.

As I am an employee of said hopstial, I am not going to share the name publically. But the security department did well.

Do you think your status as an employee changed how security dealt with the situation?

I don't believe the status of my employment was known by security. As I stated, the hospital is posted, hence my reluctance to state it's name publicly.
