I will be going to a basketball game there and wondering if anyone has experience carrying at a game. Do they pat down?
Thanks!

I don't know if they search, but the official (and illegal) university policy is that nobody can carry on campus (except police, etc). The law allows them to restrict students and employees from carrying by threatening to expel or fire them, but they can't restrict visitors from carrying since the U is for all intents and purposes part of the state government. There was an earlier discussion about the similar MNSCU policy. Feel free to be the test case at the U . I'm a student, so I can't take any chances and get expelled.

Last year, my f-law had season tickets to Gophers Bball and the arena is posted. There was no search, just a bored security guard leaning against the turn-style. They might have been looking in people's bags for alcohol, but that was it.
Maybe somebody else has been there more recently than me?

I do understand the issue as it pertains to students or staff but does it say anything about "regular" visitors?

No person, whether a student, employee, or visitor, shall possess or carry a weapon while on University property... (italics added) Quote: SECTION V. VIOLATIONS
Subd. 3. Visitors. Violation of this policy by a visitor shall result in a request to leave the University property, function, or event, as the case may be, and also may result in a written directive to remain off University property.

I see, so basically if I GET caught then I have to leave.
Well, then this thread turns to:
Has anyone carried to U of M events? Are there pat downs like the Metrodome?

They do "side-pats at the Metrodome (Vikings) But I didn't notice any 'signs' at the AZ game. Of course I didn't look hard. I was through security before I got to the door. And I didn't hear the PA announcing no bombs or weapons as they used to.
They are looking for beer smugglers or suicide bombers rather than permit holders. And it is very fashionable to have pseudo-security at important venues these days.

Well, without further information I will go ahead and carry at the game. I will let you all know how it turns out.

This game is coming up and I am still undecided as to whether carry or not.

Feel free to carry, but understand that in the upper decks are mostly bleacher style seats that can be tough to keep your piece covered all the time. A good time to wear that shoulder holster or a extra long coat for waist cover.
I have season tickets to most every thing the gophers do, and I carry to all the events. They will check bags for booze, but I have never seen any kind of pat down except for some student types suspected for sneaking in beer. I also know that I am not alone in carrying.
